Sheep Creek Mine Proposal
On February, 26, 2024, the Ravalli County Fish and Wildlife Association partnered with Bitterroot River Trout Unlimited to host a presentation on concerns of the exploration of a mining operation on Sheep Creek at the headwaters of the Bitterroot River. The meeting was well attended, with approximately 250 people from throughout the community participating.
Dr. Phil Ramsey PhD of the Bitterroot Clean Water Alliance, presented several areas of concern regarding this proposed operation. Some of these concerns included the possibility of contaminants such and toxins being released and seeping into the Bitterroot River. According to Dr. Ramsey, the mining operation could also have impact the water needed for the Bitterroot Valley agriculture, and live stock production, as well as the river’s fishery.
On the Bitterroot Clean Water Alliance website, Dr. Ramsey offers a point by point presentation on the reasons why this project should be of great concern to the Bitterroot Valley. For further information go to http://www.bitterrootcleanwater.org
